Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI)

The PMI, also known as the Purchasing Managers' Index, is an important early indicator of economic development. Managers, analysts and business journalists value the monthly index as a reliable forecasting tool.

Our member has been investigating for more than 25 years procure.ch – the trade association for purchasing and supply management – the PMI Industry in cooperation with Credit Suisse – the PMI Service for 6 years. The purchasing managers' index has its origins in the USA, where it has proven itself for over 50 years.

More than 430 purchasing managers provide the basis for the index with monthly information: using a standardized online questionnaire, anonymously and using qualitative assessments. They only indicate whether the activity level of various key figures (see boxes) is higher, the same or lower than in the previous month. The Credit Suisse Economic Research team then analyzes and comments on the aggregated responses.

We are happy to make this index available to you with the following link:

As a purchasing manager in an industrial, service or trading company, you are always welcome to contribute your information to the Purchasing Managers' Index. The time required to fill out the PMI questionnaire is only around 15 minutes per month.
